"My name is Shlomo Goldstof. I am a 30 year old Charedi (ultra-orthodox) Jew who has learned in yeshiva for many years and have come to realize that my place should not be limited to that one environment. One must learn, but one must also earn a living. Within the framework of the Tal Law, I placed an application to perform National Service at Yad Sarah. While I was in yeshiva I felt that I was sitting and learning and doing what I was supposed to be doing, but in fact I wasn’t fulfilling my entire potential, and I felt dissatisfaction with myself for not realizing my purpose in life. Today I feel that I am realizing this purpose and I derive satisfaction from what I am currently doing. On the one hand, I am able to devote several hours towards my learning, and on the other hand I am able to devote many hours to helping others. I feel that I am giving to others, and this sense of giving gives me something in return: I feel at peace with myself."
While at Yad Sarah, Shlomo volunteered as a computer technician in the IT department. His duties included configuration of hardware and software, trouble shooting, software installation, and technical support.
Shlomo Goldstof was one of 20 recipients of a prize of excellence awarded by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for the outstanding work he performed in the course of his National Service at Yad Sarah.
