What We Found At The Gift shop
Last week we had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Yad Sarah headquarters to view some of the incredible services that are offered there daily. We strolled through the hallways which display countless pictures of Yad Sarah over the years until we came to a room that caught our attention.
The room was filled with beautifully hand-crafted pieces of art. Upon viewing the masterpieces we asked a hard working staff member about the artists and their connection to Yad Sarah. She responded with a smile explaining to us that the artists are actually dedicated volunteers who have reached retirement.
They come on a regular basis to devote their time and skills in order to create the lovely artwork that was displayed before us. She went on to explain that once the art is completed, it is sold in both Yad Sarah gift shops as well as outside of Israel where all the proceeds then return to aid different sectors of Yad Sarah.
We found it moving that we were fortunate enough to witness some of the amazing volunteers hard at work. We were then given the privilege of a private tour of the gift shop. We were taken aback by the impressive amount of talent displayed on the shelves.
We saw tea boxes, knitted sweaters, aprons, baby blankets and more all created with the love and hard work of Yad Sarah volunteers.(In Photo). We spoke to the women running the store who told us that even the store itself is run by volunteers. She then went on to explain how she herself has been involved with the gift shop for the past eight years. Not only does she run the gift shop but she also coordinates the importing and exporting of the merchandise.
Throughout our visit, we found something in common with every volunteer that we encountered. Each and every person there is extremely enthusiastic and passionate about contributing to Yad Sarah and building it into what it is today.
Until next time-
