Jerusalemites were assisted more than 110,000 times by Yad Sarah in 2002,it was revealed at a meeting of 70 of the voluntary organization’s branch directors around the country. Of these, there were 45,000 pieces of borrowed medical equipment, 42,000 trips in the Nechonit van for disabled passengers, 5,500 repairs of wheelchairs and other equipment, 4,880 dental treatments for the elderly and 3,200 call to the emergency help line. Founded 27 years ago by Uri Lupolianski (the current mayor), it has 16 branches in the capital alone, of them four in or near hospitals and 10 run out of private homes, including Lupolianski’s.
