It is hard to describe what an experience awaited the volunteers as they accompanied these disabled and elderly people to the polls.  One memory that stands out is the 103 year-old woman who wanted to vote but hadn’t managed to make arrangements in advance with Yad Sarah for transportation.  Her son and daughter, who were at the retirement home to which our volunteer had arrived, asked him if he would be kind enough to give their wheelchair-bound mother a lift to the polls so she could vote.  A short phone call to the transportation center verified it would be OK, and the charming woman was helped into the van along with another woman destined for the same voting location.  Together they happily rode in the van to exercise their civic right to vote. 

After she and her excited children heartily thanked the volunteer, the volunteer promised to drive her to the polls again for the next elections!!

Each and every one of the participants brought back warm memories from their volunteer activities on Election Day and all were enriched by the thought that they helped so many of the elderly and disabled to exercise their civic duty just like any other citizen of the State of Israel.
