March has come and gone, and with it the many calls fielded by Yad Sarah's bright and capable Emergency Alarm Center operators. The elderly and homebound reach out to this lifeline for a variety of reasons: some need serious problems resolved and some just want to connect with a warm caring human to help them with daily problems. Here are some examples:
· When a burglar entered the home of one client, she immediately summoned help and the operator alerted a neighbor and the police. Among the jewelry retrieved was the woman's Yad Sarah lifeline bracelet.
· Another woman couldn't figure out how to change her television channel. She got expert advice from the operator at Yad Sarah.
· A woman who needed to fill a prescription for antibiotics had no way to leave her home. Yad Sarah sent over a neighbor who cheerfully took care of the errand.
· Embarrassed to admit that he felt lonely and in need of companionship and someone to talk to, a client asked Yad Sarah to relay his request to the proper social services authorities.
· Sadly, when one family had to notify their grandmother that her grandson had been killed, they asked Yad Sarah to send a doctor to the home to care for her when they broke the news.
Operators handle many unusual problems and requests, and even enjoy occasonal light-hearted moments. Imagine the surprise of one Emergency Alarm Center Operator who received a call at 7:00 p.m. greeting her with "Good Morning." This is all in a day's work at the Emergency Alarm Center: laughs and tears and much satisfaction from helping those who cannot help themselves.
